Florida Medical Cannabis Collective: 01.10.2019 Update

We’re just over a week into the new year, and good things are already beginning to happen in the Florida cannabis industry. We’ve detailed how we believe 2019 will be a great year for the program, and the first ten days of the new year have already been filled with positive progression for Florida cannabis patients and advocates. We’re already seeing more flower, more products, and storefront expansion as real affirmations of our thoughts; hopefully this trend will continue and exponentially increase as we progress through the year.

1.) Altmed (MUV) has confirmed a Flower product

We learned from a Reddit post by user potatoslavecki that Altmed Florida (MUV) announced via Instagram that their flower pod product would be released very soon. As MUV has been known to have some of the widest variety of strains (particularly in concentrates) in the Florida cannabis market, we are very excited to see another Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC) announce a flower product. We expect this will be a trend this year. Hopefully MUV will open a panhandle location soon; we are eagerly awaiting to try their products.

2.) Trulieve has released more flower strains and partnered with Sunshine Cannabis to bring Florida patients a new variety of cannabis products

Florida cannabis industry leader Trulieve came out strong in the first week of the year by releasing a new variety of flower strains on their website, some that we haven’t seen anywhere else in the state’s cannabis market until now. Skywalker OG, Zkittlez, and Crescendo (all indica strains) are now available for purchase. Many patients on reddit expressed their positive sentiments that more indica strains are now available in flower.

Perhaps even more exciting was today’s announcement of a new partnership between Trulieve and Florida cannabis company Sunshine Cannabis to bring Florida cannabis patients a new variety of proprietary strains in vape carts, vape pods, concentrates, flower, and edibles (when given approval and guidelines by the state). We expect that this new line of products will focus on cannabis-derived terpenes and naming the products for the strain they are extracted from; both of these issues were repeatedly brought up on various social media, and we believe all Florida MMTCs are learning from this and other constructive criticism that is spoken out online. That’s another reason we believe 2019 is going to be such a phenomenal year for the program.

3.) GrowHealthy expanded their strain variety

GrowHealthy also started the year strong with an email announcement of several new strains in their lineup: Afghan Rubi (High CBD), Grape Stomper (1:1), Lemon Alien (Indica), and Lee Roy (Sativa). We expect GrowHealthy to continue expanding their storefront presence throughout the state; we also expect for their delivery area/frequency to increase as well. GrowHealthy is definitely a company worth watching this year.

4.) Smoking Ban Update

January 8’s court trial on the constitutionality of the smoking ban has been fairly unfruitful, with much of the same viewpoints expressed from both sides. The main game changer, newly-elected Governor Ron Desantis, has not yet taken any sort of action that indicates he will fulfill his promise of giving the patients what we voted for in 2016. Until then, we are taking his words with a grain of salt, but remain hopeful that he will be part of the positive change and growth of Florida’s medical cannabis industry this year.

Closing Thoughts

The year is off to a good start. Some of our predictions for 2019 are already beginning to be realized, and we expect that trend will continue as the weeks progress.
