Stardawg has been MIA from Trulieve for all of 2019, until this point, after having a prominent presence in their product line for much of 2018.
When I first tried this strain in ceramic cups back in late 2018, the curing was absolutely terrible – one of the only negative experiences I’ve had with getting flower from Trulieve. I remember the flower being extremely dry, to the point that it crumbled to the touch. It also smelled and tasted like mids from my early days buying cannabis on the black market – not at all like I expect medical grade cannabis to taste and smell.
Fortunately, Trulieve has greatly improved the quality of their flower since then, and this batch of Stardawg is exponentially better in all areas than the last batch I tried.
Batch/Harvest Number: FFOBBULZ6L00009 (that’s an “O” at the beginning and zeroes at the end)
Total Cannabinoids: 21.9%
“*” denotes the two dominant terpenes in this strain
Total Terpenes: 1.7495%
These Stardawg buds were mostly large with a slightly compact structure. The color fluctuates from medium to light green while all buds are covered in sparking trichomes and fiery red-orange pistils.
The first batch of Stardawg I got in the flower cups in late 2018 was extremely dry and brittle with almost no visual trichomes. As has been true with nearly all of Trulieve’s smokable flower batches in the past month, this batch is cured to near perfection. Moisture content is right near the middle of the spectrum, as I prefer it to be, and the buds are very sticky. This is how Stardawg should be grown. Great job, Trulieve!
Appearance Rating: 8.40/10.00
Stardawg has an earthy/woody smell with an underlying musk. While stains like Jack Herer and Super Silver Haze tend to have very sharp earthy and piney terpenes, the terpenes in Stardawg are much smoother and mellow. There’s also a bit of a floral smell to this strain, and a very subtle sweetness.
Stardawg produces a smooth smoke that is dominated by the earthy and woody tastes on both the inhale and the exhale. I don’t find Stardawg to be particularly noteworthy in the smell/taste category, but it is pleasant.
Smell/Taste Rating: 7.40/10.00
Though both of its parents are listed as indica-dominant hybrids, Stardawg definitely feels like a sativa-dominant hybrid to me. I would have to say it is 60/40% sativa-leaning, with potent cerebral effects that come on quickly after consumption.
After some time, Stardawg fades into a gentle body buzz that helps relieve minor aches and pains. I find this to be an excellent strain for physical activity such as working out in the gym, as the cerebral effects keep me motivated while the body effects keep me relaxed and able to carry out each exercise with proper form and focus.
I don’t think this strain is going to be a great one for pain relief or insomnia – one would look to more heavy hybrids and indica strains for that, but I do find it to be an excellent strain for stress relief and easing up the negative thoughts and feelings associated with depression. Overall, Stardawg has nice effects, and I may buy it again in the future if the $53/eighth price comes down.
Possibly good for treating:
- Minor to moderate aches and pains
- Minor depression
- Lack of motivation
- Gastrointestinal discomfort (Irritable Bowel Syndrome or other similar conditions)
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Overall, I would best describe Stardawg as a “very good” hybrid strain.
I was pleased to be able to try this strain from a batch that was grown closer to the strain’s true potential, and I do think these are some beautiful buds. The smoke is pleasant and tastes nice, and the effects are great for use at any time of the day. I think $53 is too expensive for this strain; it would be more suitable at $33 or even $43, but I understand there are more factors that go into consideration when determining the price of a particular strain. However, with all that being said, I probably won’t go out of my way to buy this strain until the price comes down. It’s enjoyable, but there are other $53 strains I prefer to this one; however, I realize we are all different, so this could definitely be a Top 3 strain for anyone reading this review!
Overall, this is a high quality product, and another great grow by Trulieve.
