For the first time since early 2019, Trulieve released two new flower strains on 09.11.2019 – Shipwreck, and Paradise Waits (review coming soon).
Shipwreck is a sativa strain that is known for being on the more mellow end of the sativa effects spectrum. I’ve found that I really enjoy this strain for its versatility in effects, making it a good choice for any time of the day.
Price at time of review: $43/eighth
Lineage: Trainwreck x Mothership
Batch/Harvest Number: DUFL-BLD-S-8-PK-5
Total Cannabinoids: 18.4%
“*” denotes the two dominant terpenes in this strain
Total Terpenes: 0.533%
These Shipwreck buds are medium to dark green, with some hints of purple in a few of the smaller buds – something I have not seen in many sativa strains. Red-orange pistils and a dusting of gold trichomes cover the flower.
The buds themselves are a little bit fluffy but still fairly dense and sticky, all with a great moisture content that breaks down well, both by hand and with a grinder. Trulieve has once again dialed into their consistency for producing high-quality flower with this eighth of Shipwreck.
Appearance/Cure Rating: 6.90/10.00
Shipwreck has that classic pungent skunk smell that I associate with some of my earliest memories of smoking high-quality cannabis – most of you can relate to the first time you got something other than “reggie” or “mids”, and being blown away by how pungent the smell was. That was my initial reaction when I opened my jar of Shipwreck; it immediately blew me away with a powerful smell of skunk and earthy tones.
After further investigation of the smell, there is definitely a sweetness that is masked by the pungent skunk aroma, and a bit of citrus in the mix as well – thanks to the presence of Limonene in this terpene profile.
Smell and taste are very subjective categories, as we all know that we have different preferences when it comes to what we consider to smell “good”. I happen to love strains that have this powerful skunk aroma, and am always impressed when the smell really “hits” as you open the jar.
Smell/Taste Rating: 7.80/10.00
Of all the sativa strains I’ve tried, Shipwreck has one of the most mellow and well-rounded effects spectrums that I’ve experienced. This isn’t the type of sativa that hit me over the head with racy, energetic sensations; instead, I found that it creeped in with a simultaneously enhancement of colors/vision and a noticeable body buzz.
I found Shipwreck to be versatile – that is to say, the state of one’s mind and body before medicating can really influence whether the mind (or body) sensations dominate the experience. For instance, I took a hit of this flower before heading out to the beach, and it really helped motivate me to get up off the couch and get my day started early. Likewise, I took another hit of Shipwreck when I got home from the beach, and found the effects to be much heavier and more relaxing after a couple of hours in the sun. Though the state of our mind in body can affect the overall effects experience for any flower strain, I felt that this really was prominent with how I felt the effects from Shipwreck.
With all that being said, I really enjoy and appreciate the versatility of the effects spectrum from Shipwreck. This can be a great “wake and bake” strain for morning medication (alleviating depression and motivation issues), or it can be a good “winding down” strain for relieving stress and anxiety in the late afternoon. The only time I wouldn’t recommend this strain would be right before bedtime.
Possibly good for treating:
- Lack of energy/motivation
- Depression and associated anxiety
- Lack of appetite
- Minor headaches
- Relief of minor skeletal/muscular aches and pains
- Good for general relaxation (in higher doses or later in the day)
I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.
Effects Rating: 6.80/10.00
Overall Rating: 7.16/10.00
Overall, I would best describe Shipwreck as a “good, versatile” sativa strain from Trulieve.
At $43/eighth, I would definitely consider purchasing this strain again in the future, especially with the enjoyable terpene profile and effects spectrum. I absolutely recommend this strain to patients who are “sativa connoisseurs”, and even to patients who normally prefer hybrid and indica strains – this could be a great “introductory” sativa strain for those patients.
This is a great sativa strain that I hope Trulieve will add to its rotation, and definitely a future repeat buy for me personally.
