Edible cannabis products in Florida are finally a reality, and have been for roughly a month now, after emergency ruling was passed by the Department of Health to provide guidelines for the sale of said products.
As has been typical for every major milestone of Florida’s medical cannabis industry, Trulieve accelerated approval and production to make edible cannabis products available in Florida just a short time after the ruling was passed. Their first edible product on the market were the TruGel Gummies, followed by brownies, cookies, and the chocolate bars that we will review today.
Price at time of review: $20/1bar/100mg
Ingredients: Distillate Cannabis Oil, Dark Chocolate (sugar, chocolate [processed with alkali], cocoa butter, milkfat, soy lecithin, vanilla.)
CONTAINS: Milk and Soy.
As you can see in the images above, the bar is sealed in a plastic wrapper with “THC!” on it, and that wrapper is placed on a plastic tray that is wrapped in a small cardboard sleeve.
The chocolate itself is all one bar that is admittedly slightly larger than I expected; it’s probably 30-40% larger than your average Hershey chocolate bar.
I stored my chocolate in the freezer just for personal preference. This chocolate melts easily, so I recommend at least storing it in the refrigerator if you don’t eat the whole bar in one sitting.
The scored pieces break apart fairly easily, but may not break exactly on the lines.
Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the consistency.
Product Quality/Consistency Rating: 9.00/10.00
I’ve had quite a few different types of dark chocolate over the years, from cheap to craft chocolate. That being said, I was extremely impressed with how good Trulieve’s dark chocolate tastes. It has a really smooth taste, and the taste of distillate or cannabis is not evident at all.
I’m not a chocolate connoisseur, but this Dark TruChocolate tasted really good to me, and I’ve seen several others echo my sentiments on social media. Well done!

Oral cannabis effects are different than inhalation by their very nature. They are very dose-dependent, and vary greatly from patient to patient based on individual tolerance. For an educational recap of oral cannabis effects, click here.
I have what I would consider a moderate tolerance for myself at the time of writing. I started off with a 30 mg dose, or 3 pieces of chocolate. It took about 60 to 90 minutes for the effects to become noticeable. A full body relaxation and warming sensation was most noticeable, but I also found myself to be a little bit giggly as well. As always is the case with me, smoking flower on top of the edibles I had consumed really amplified the effects greater than either one alone. I took another 10mg before bed that night, and slept well.
The next day, I upped the dose to 40 mg. This must have crossed a personal threshold for me, because I really felt the effects of the chocolate after a couple of hours (without smoking anything, at that) – on the borderline of having anxiety, but not quite there. A little bit of CBD helped take the edge off the intensity, and I had a really nice combination of cerebral and full body effects going on. Playing NBA 2K21 was especially enjoyable. After around 3 hours had passed since the initial 40 mg, I took the rest of the bar, which was 20 mg, for a total of 60 mg that night. I felt to be in a haze-like state for the remainder of the night. For readers who have little to no experience with edibles, but are considering trying them, be sure you have nothing to do for the rest of the day. Trust me, you will thank yourself.
I’m not sure what it is about edibles, but they seem to hit me harder than equivalent doses of raw distillate. Perhaps this is placebo effect, or perhaps there’s something to the distillate being cooked with/into the product? Either way, it results it a desirable outcome: all of Trulieve’s edibles that I’ve tried so far, have been surprisingly potent in my opinion.
Possibly good for treating:
- Minor to moderate aches and pains
- Lack of motivation (in lower doses)
- General relaxation/relief
- Relief of nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms
- Insomnia (especially in higher doses)

Trulieve’s Dark TruChocolate is best described as an “excellent” product.
The one negative thing that many will argue about this product is the cost-effectiveness – many patients know that they can buy a gram of distillate and make their own edibles for much less money per milligram. However, the convenience is what is valuable here, and we must keep in mind that not everyone has the means or desire to make their own edible products.
If for nothing else other than the novelty – I say give them a try! Based off this experience, I will definitely try other edible products from Trulieve in the future.
Hope you all have a wonderful morning, afternoon, evening, or night – whichever applies. Thanks for reading the review!
New! – FLMCC Coffee Mugs
I’ve been talking about launching a merchandise line forever, and finally got around to it recently. The first product is live: the FLMCC Coffee Mug!
These are a great way to support the Collective and have another sleek new mug to add to the collection. They also pair amazingly with great sativa strains!
Here’s a link to the product page: (I highly recommend choosing the black color option!)
