Curaleaf “Live Blends” Vape Cart Review: Purple Sunset + Green Apple Jack (Hybrid)

Curaleaf recently announced and released their newest line of vape carts in Florida: their “Live Blends”. If you’d like to read the full-on detailed press release, click here. For the TLDR version, keep scrolling.

The selling point for the “live blends” (what makes it unique), is the blending of live (from frozen cannabis flower) terpenes, and botanical terpenes, which are formulated and not cannabis-specific. Many different brands of vape carts in Florida utilize one or the other type of terpenes exclusively, but the “Live blends” from Curaleaf is the first to advertise using both in the same cart.

From what I can tell, there are two main goals for this practice: one is to create a unique type of cart that gives its own unique effects experience, and the other is to create an option for patients who may enjoy the cannabis taste more if it is mixed with the fruitier tastes of the botanical terpenes.

Quick Facts:

Purple Sunset – Hybrid
Added botanical terpenes: “Sour Apple Jack” flavor

Price at time of review: $58/0.5g cart

Lineage: Purple Punch x Mandarin Sunset x Mandarin Cookies

81.9% THC

0.0% CBD

(I’m sure there’s at least a small amount of CBD in this cart, but it isn’t listed on the box or label.)

81.9% Total Cannabinoids

Taste:

The mix of cannabis and botanical terpenes certainly provides for a unique taste experience. Initially, the inhale tastes like fresh cannabis, very similar to how Curaleaf’s Elite Live Vape tasted when I tried it a couple of months back.

However, as soon as the vapor settles while preparing to exhale, an unmistakable taste of cool, sweet green apple comes through. I do have to say that it seems to complete the taste profile, and though I prefer cannabis terpenes to be exclusively used in my vape carts (just personal preference), I must say that the botanical terpenes really do add to the enjoyable taste of this cart. The green apple complements the cannabis terpenes from the Purple Sunset strain quite well.

Vapor and Product Quality

Curaleaf uses CCell cartridges, like many other brands I’ve tried – this is a good thing, as the quality is always there with CCell. The plastic mouthpiece like on this cart seems to bother some people, but I don’t necessarily have a strong opinion on the composition of my vape cart mouthpieces.

I was also pleased to see that this cart was filled nearly to the brim when I got it (the image above was taken after 2 days of use). Many patients have noticed Curaleaf carts having excessive “headspace” in the past, and images across social media have revealed carts that were only half full in some cases. I’m very pleased to announce that wasn’t the case with this cart, and hopefully represents a new standard for Curaleaf going forward. With the high prices we have to pay for medical cannabis in Florida, every bit truly counts.

Other than that, the cart functions very well. No clogging, no issues – solid performance.

Vapor/Product Quality Rating: 9.00/10.00

Effects:

Purple Sunset (with added Sour Apple Jack botanical terpenes) is a very relaxing strain, with effects that feel like an indica-dominant hybrid. Immediately after taking a draw, I feel the effects set in behind my eyes and forehead. A warm-body sensation begins to follow, and cerebral effects seem to stay even-keeled for the full duration of onset through comedown.

I’ve used this cart at all times of the day and night, and it’s worked. I’ve used it in the mornings to help me ease into the day without anxiety, and I’ve also used it in the middle of the night to help me get back to sleep. I love versatile hybrid strains like this, and am eager to see if Purple Sunset flower has similar effects.

As for this vape cart: it seems suitable for almost any time of day – a great “desert island” vape cart.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • Lack of motivation (in lower doses)
  • General relaxation/relief
  • Relief of nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Generally versatile strain

Effects Rating: 9.00/10.00

Overall Rating: 8.85/10.00

Curaleaf’s Purple Sunset “Live Blend” cart is best described as an “excellent” product.

I commend Curaleaf for trying new ideas with their products, and these particular blends of cannabis and botanical terpenes seem to fill in another niche in Florida’s medical cannabis market. The “Live Blend” vapes, from my experience, seem best suited for patients looking for a different effects profile than what they can obtain from a cart that exclusively utilizes one or the other type of terpene. In some cases, patients may find that the Live Blends taste better than the pure “Live Elite” cannabis terpene vape carts. In any case, I recommend trying out all kinds of different products until you find the one that works best for you – that’s what it’s all about!

Hope you all have a wonderful morning, afternoon, evening, or night – whichever applies. Thanks for reading the review!

New! – FLMCC Coffee Mugs

I’ve been talking about launching a merchandise line forever, and finally got around to it tonight. The first product is live: the FLMCC Coffee Mug!

These are a great way to support the Collective and have another sleek new mug to add to the collection. They also pair amazingly with great sativa strains!
