MÜV Flower Review: RudeBoi OG (Indica)

Hello all! Hope this review finds you well, as always. This is our first review written after most all of the results of America’s 2020 Election have come in. While we will avoid getting political outside of the context of cannabis in these reviews, the takeaway is that cannabis won big across the nation. Several states legalized cannabis for Adult Use, and a couple legalized medical cannabis for the first time. Finally, President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris have pledged multiple times to take action on criminal justice reform for cannabis, including federal decriminalization and expunging past cannabis-related offenses from the records of millions of Americans. What action the new Presidential ticket does or doesn’t take on cannabis remains to be seen, but the takeaway is that the United States at large is moving toward a more uniform acceptance of cannabis in our society, and widespread legalization/reform in some form is more inevitable than ever before.

With all that being said, writing this review today has a bit more symbolism behind it. This is the dawn of the “next” step for cannabis reform in our country (and therefore our state, to some degree.) It feels appropriate to review a member of the OG Kush lineage for the occasion.

RudeBoi OG is bred by crossing two OG Kush phenotypes, resulting in a pungent strain that carries some of the best characteristics of its parents. MÜV has carried this strain ever since the old flower cup days in 2018, and it seems to be a regular staple in their rotation.

Appearance/Cure

MÜV’s T1 flower is $50 per eighth vs. the $32 pricetag of their T3 flower, and the $40 for T2. Per their website:

Tier 1 ($50) and Tier 2 ($40) are selected based on potency, size, structure, terpene profiles and aroma. Tier 3 is based on size only.

The latter half of 2020 has seen a step up in quality of MÜV’s flower, and this eighth of RudeBoi OG continues that trend. Each nug is dense, sticky, and seems to be properly cured. The trim on this batch was nearly immaculate as well, with only a few sugar leaves left behind.

RudeBoi OG has a similar physical appearance to other OG Kush variants that I’ve tried, with darker green hues, and burnt orange pistils. However, this phenotype has been unique for me in that it’s the first OG Kush lineage I’ve seen with expressions of purple color – there are a few flecks of purple near the bases, and inside of some of the larger buds in this eighth.

Completing the package is a generous covering of dusty golden trichomes that seems to indicate the plants were allowed to mature properly. I’m again impressed with MÜV’s flower here, and will continue to return and try other strains as they continue to improve on this trend of increasing quality.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 9.00/10.00

Smell/Taste

In my experience, OG Kush phenotypes seem to have two main smells, expressed in various ratios. There’s that extremely classic gassy smell that stinks up the whole house, and then there’s the sharper piney smell of terpinolene, found in strains like Jack Herer and Fluent’s “Odra” phenotype of OG Kush.

RudeBoi OG largely takes on the former terpene profile, with a sour, sharp, hashy gas/diesel smell that immediately “bites” at the nose upon opening the container. Underneath, there are more subtle notes of sweet pine and earthy musk.

The smell of this strain reminds me a lot of another OG phenotype that MÜV also carries: Triangle Kush. I described that strain as smelling like those first batches of “loud” I got around 10 years ago as a young adult in a state with no legal cannabis. RudeBoi OG is going to smell up the room, wherever you are.

The taste when smoked is a sweet, hashy pine on the inhale, followed by the earthy and diesel notes on the exhale. All in all, RudeBoi OG has that “classic” loud cannabis smell and taste that most longtime consumers and patients will greatly enjoy.

Smell/Taste Rating: 9.40/100

Effects/Medical Use

Much like its smell, the effects of RudeBoi OG are “classic cannabis” for me: hungry, happy, and perhaps slightly sleepy at higher doses. Again, the effects of this OG pheno remind me a lot of MÜV’s Triangle Kush flower; with a similar smell/taste and similar effects, these two strains largely feel like one and the same. If you find one strain useful and enjoyable, chances are you will find the other to be the same.

RudeBoi OG is not a particularly heavy indica strain, but I do find it a little heavier than the Triangle Kush I’ve been comparing it to. What I find noticeable is how much I feel the effects in my head and eyes; I almost always find my eyes to be bloodshot after smoking this strain, which is unusual for me – my eyes rarely turn red after smoking, and have always been this way.

I’d have to say that this is one of the more cerebral indicas I’ve tried, and I feel the effects almost exclusively as cerebral enhancement/stimulation, and general euphoria. Like many strains, as the effects progress, they become heavier and more body-centric. In higher doses, it is possible to cross the line from relaxation into sedation, but this strain wouldn’t be my first recommendation for combating insomnia – at least in my experience. For me, RudeBoi is a versatile strain that can be used at any time of the day, but I find it best for use in the afternoon and evening hours.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression and related anxiety
  • ADD/ADHD or focus-related issues (in lower doses)
  • Lack of motivation (in lower doses)
  • Relief of minor aches and pains (in moderate to high doses)
  • General relaxation and euphoria
  • Relief of minor GI issues: IBS, etc.
  • Insomnia (in higher doses)
  • Lack of appetite

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 9.40/10.00

Overall Rating: 9.26/10.00

Overall, I would best describe RudeBoi OG as an “outstanding” indica strain from MÜV.

RudeBoi OG is a strain that I will absolutely purchase again in the future, and likely will purchase almost any time I see that it’s available. I love these classic “gas” strains that invoke euphoria and good mood above everything else, and always love to keep at least one in my strain rotation whenever I can. Patients who enjoy strains like this will very likely find another “keeper” in RudeBoi OG.
