Curaleaf Pride Preroll Review: Panama (Sativa)

Curaleaf released their “Pride’ line of prerolls for LGBTQ+ Pride Month this past June. $1 from each sale of a Pride Preroll goes toward the OnePULSE foundation to honor the 49 lives lost, and the 68 others that were injured on that tragic night at the Pulse nightclub.

Panama (sometimes called “Panama Red”) is an old classic Landrace sativa known for its uplifting, “trippy” cerebral effects” I have enjoyed one with my caffeine this morning, and will review my experience with this product while it is fresh on my mind. I’d also like to use some of this review to send my love to the LGBTQ+ community: love is love, and you are all beautiful and deserving of the same wonderful experiences in this life as every other human being.

Quick Facts:

Price at time of review: $13/1 gram preroll

Panama (Sativa)

Lineage: Landrace Strain

13.588% THC

Appearance/Quality

It always feels like a bit of a roll of the dice as to whether a preroll in Florida’s medical cannabis industry is going to burn correctly, but I was pleased that this one did. There were no “running” or uneven burning issues; the preroll simply did what it was designed to do: burn evenly.

I also appreciate the rainbow filter on the preroll as an homage to Pride. Small gestures of being inclusive can have far-reaching positive effects in our daily lives. Put another way: be kind; what goes around comes around.

Smell/Taste

This strain for me was predominately earthy in both the smell and taste, with perhaps a bit of spice on the exhale.

Landrace strains are not always known for a stellar smell and taste, and that seemed to be the case with this Panama preroll. By no means was the smell and taste bad; it was simply very “middle of the road” and mild.

Effects/Medical Use

I found Panama to have very classic “sativa” effects: uplifting and cerebral, with a mellow energetic feeling and comfortable euphoria completing the effects profile.

This seems like a good strain for a relaxing day. It isn’t a particularly energetic or racy sativa; instead, this seems like one of those “day on the beach in the sun” type of strains.

I could definitely tell at 13% THC, the effects were more mellow than other medicinal strains I currently have; however, in this case it is a good thing – I like to “chief” on joints a little bit, and that isn’t always practical when the first couple of hits have you completely medicated. Lower THC does have its uses, and I do sometimes find the lower potency to be enjoyable and appropriate for applications like this.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression and related anxiety
  • Social anxiety/agoraphobia
  • Good for general relaxation
  • Minor aches and pains
  • Minor nausea/gastrointestinal issues

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Closing Thoughts

Overall, I would best describe the Panama preroll as a “good” product. It worked well for what it is, and I did enjoy the mellow sativa effects from this strain.

To close out this review, I’m going to do something a little different and offer a bit of “deep thought” as I have been pondering Pride and the LGBTQ+ community.

I am not personally LGBTQ+, but I consider myself an ally. One of my philosophies has always been this: as long as a person isn’t doing anything to hurt other people, or the environment, then why should we waste our time trying to persecute them?

Love is love, and there is nothing different from the LGBTQ+ community other than who they may choose to love. There is absolutely no reason to treat them as any less than human, as anything less than what we would treat a straight person. These people deserve to live their lives and to be able to pursue the American Dream just as all Americans should be able to, and as I write this on July 4 (USA Independence Day), I am even more reminded that the American Dream must be available to all Americans.

LGBTQ+ should not have to live in fear of being ostracized or persecuted for who or how they choose to love – or even worse, to live in fear of losing their lives to hatred. We are all human, and we all must share this rock called Earth for the duration of our lives. Instead of treating other people badly because they might believe or love differently, we should instead take that energy to love everybody, to be the best human we can be, and to lift each other up in the process.

Love is a beautiful thing. It is pure, and with it, almost anything is possible. We can’t forget that. To any LGBTQ+ humans who may be reading this, know this: you are loved, you are beautiful, and I am happy that we are making progress to helping more people be accepting of you and all of who you are. We are better when we are together – and I will always support you!
