Trulieve TruFlower Review: Blue Spring Cookies (Indica)

Blue Spring Cookies is another new strain from Trulieve in 2021, and it garnered enough of a positive buzz on social media that I decided to take a leap of faith and purchase a strain that has almost zero information about it online.

Like many new strains in Florida, this is another Cookies/Cake derivative – this time crossing the classic GSC with a strain called “Pillars of Cake”, the latter of which I could not find any information on, either.

Something I’ve noticed about myself the past year or so: while I have not yet found a cut of GSC flower that I liked very much (this may just be due to bad luck with getting a good batch), I almost always like GSC crosses. They tend to have smell and taste profiles that resonate well with me, and the effects almost always seem to be exactly what I’m looking for to relax.

Quick Facts:

Blue Spring Cookies

Price at time of review: $53/eighth

Lineage (according to Trulieve Twitter): Pillars of Cake x GSC

(Note: This is not the same strain as Blue Cookies, which is Blueberry x GSC.)

Batch/Harvest Number: 29471_0000505599

Lab Report

Appearance/Cure

Blue Spring Cookies takes a lot of its GSC in its appearance, but has quite the variety of colors in its flowers, as you can see above.

After going through a “hit or miss” phase in the beginning of 2021, I feel that Trulieve’s flower in mid-2021 has been much more consistent and generally high quality. This batch of Blue Spring Cookies is very dense, moderately sticky, and breaks down into a nice consistency.

This particular eighth has something that unfortunately seems to be a rarity in Florida medical cannabis at times: gold to amber colored trichomes, indicating the plant was allowed to mature before harvest.

I was impressed with this eighth, and hope Trulieve can keep this level of quality coming for the rest of the year.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 8.20/10.00

Smell/Taste

As many of you who have tried GSC and many of its crosses might infer, Blue Spring Cookies has the classic cookies/cake aroma right out of the jar. It isn’t particularly “knockout” pungent, but it has a moderately strong smell that is easy to pick up.

When ground up, I found that some nugs had a nutty, almost garlicky funk to them. Others had more of a fruity smell – almost blueberry, as a matter of fact. This is the first time I’ve noticed a different smell from various nugs in the batch, but this could be due to a variance in the distribution of terpenes between different flowers or different areas on the plant in general.

The taste when smoked is about what one would expect from the smell: sweet cake/cookies on the inhale, and the same on the exhale, with the addition of a subtle earthy/spicy taste that lingers for a second or two afterward.

Smell/Taste Rating: 7.70/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

For FLMCC readers who are fans of GrowHealthy’s Wookie Girl strain, you will be happy to know that (in my opinion, at least) Blue Spring Cookies’ effects are very similar – but slightly heavier, and a bit sedating. This makes sense, given that the two strains share the GSC parent.

Blue Spring Cookies comes on strong with a heavy cerebral rush, that actually surprised me with it strength at first, given the “indica’ label. This soon mellows out into a blissful, cloudy euphoria – and heavy body relaxation begins creeping in almost immediately after.

The heavy body relaxation, especially at nighttime for me, continues to grow until it crosses the line into sedation. I am fully relaxed and “couch locked” if I even consume a moderate amount of the strain. In fact, it is around 3:00 PM as I write this review; even with moderate caffeine this morning, and plenty of energy, I can feel the one hit I had trying to creep up and cause me to sink a little deeper into my chair.

With all that said, I recommend Blue Spring Cookies primarily for evening use. It is one of the heavier indica strains I’ve encountered.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Moderate aches and pains
  • Moderate nausea/gastrointestinal issues
  • General Relaxation
  • Insomnia (especially in moderate to high doses)
  • May be a good strain for being social/talkative

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 8.30/10.00

Overall Rating: 8.06/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Blue Spring Cookies as a “very good” indica strain from Trulieve.

Trulieve has been releasing what seems like dozens of new strains in the past year, and I am doing my best to keep up with them and the other MMTCs’ new strains to review for you all. Thanks for your continued support of FLMCC; I look forward to continuing to do this with all of you as the Florida medical cannabis industry continues to grow!
