Trulieve TruCRMBL Review: Sour Diesel (Sativa)

Trulieve released their version of cannabis crumble – TruCRMBL – on 02.15.2019. My preferred strains for my “main” line of medication are almost always sativa; the sativa strains currently available in Trulieve’s crumble are Sour Diesel, Jack Herer, and Super Silver Haze. Sour Diesel has been a longtime classic strain, a staple of the cannabis industry, and long used as a label for many a generic strain that your black market dealer happened to have at the time.

“Aye man, I got that gas! This is that Sour Diesel!”

True Sour Diesel is a long acclaimed sativa that is known to obliterate depression, and provide enough energy and motivation to power through almost any task. I found these effects to be consistent with my experience when I tried the flower form of Sour Diesel (review here), and was interested to see if I would have a similar positive experience with the crumble.

Quick Facts:

Sour Diesel (Sativa)

Lineage: Chemdawg 91 x Super SkunkI find it interesting that one hybrid and one indica parent yielded a sativa. The science of cannabis is fascinating!

0.0 mg CBD/1g

81.3% THC

0.00% CBD

2.50% CBG

Sour Diesel TruCRMBL

As one Reddit user on the Florida Medical Trees subreddit put it: “TruCRMBL looks exactly as it’s supposed to.” The crumble itself is very “pure” looking and is a very nice waxy consistency that is very easy to work with using any type of dabbing tool. The crumble I got was as pictured above. I noticed with this particular batch that the cannabinoid crystals are very visible and sparkly, especially when held under a flashlight. If you have any crumble, I recommend doing just that (holding it under a flashlight); it looks spectacular. This gram weighed out to 1.0g. Overall, I think Trulieve did a fantastic job processing this batch. It looks great, and it’s a nice consistency.

Appearance Rating: 4.60/5.00

Sour Diesel crumble has an absolutely amazing smell and taste – I cannot put the jar down if I’m around it, because I have to keep smelling it. Seriously. There is this very pungent/sharp citrus smell, with an equally/pungent smell that does in fact smell very similar to something between gasoline and diesel fuel. It smells very “clean” and fresh. The taste is similar to the smell, if not a bit more on the citrus side vs. diesel. Compared to the flower, the Sour Diesel crumble seems to have an even more sharp/pungent smell, and also a bit more sweetness to it.

Smell/Taste Rating: 4.40/5.00

Effects/Medical Use

Sour Diesel is a very racy sativa in flower form, and it holds true for the crumble as well. I recommend that any patient looking to try this strain have at least some experience with sativa, or you may find yourself dealing with a bit of sativa-induced anxiety. Sour Diesel is very motivational and energetic, and it can get the heart pumping. I do find that my heart seems to beat a little bit harder/faster after medicating with this strain; however, I have over a decade of experience with cannabis, so it doesn’t really bother me.

If you’re a patient who is experienced with sativa strains, you will find Sour Diesel to have classic sativa effects, and great for morning/daytime medication. Need to clean your house, beat a deadline, exercise, or basically do anything that you might otherwise procrastinate? Sour Diesel will help you soar through that task. For me, it works pretty well for depression, though I have found other sativas that do that job better – like Colombian Gold. Sour Diesel is definitely one of the best sativa strains I’ve found for energy and motivation, whether consumed in flower or concentrate form.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression and related anxiety
  • ADD/ADHD or focus-related issues
  • Lack of motivation
  • Improves concentration and memory recall
  • Increases energy/alertness, in a way almost similar to caffeine

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Effects Rating: 4.50/5.00

Overall Rating: 4.50/5.00

Overall, I would best describe Sour Diesel as an “excellent” strain.

TruCRMBL really impressed me. In the past, I have always been more partial to flower; however, after trying this crumble and Trulieve’s Super Silver Haze crumble, I will definitely be keeping more strains around as a sort of “extra strength medication”, if you will. I’d highly recommend for each patient to try at least 1 gram of their favorite strain to compare the relief to other forms of cannabis medication. This is a very high quality product in my opinion. Is it the best thing ever? That’s entirely a matter of personal preference, but I think it’s definitely worth at least a “test run” from anyone.

Trulieve Flower Review: Super Silver Haze (Sativa)

Super Silver Haze is a classic powerhouse sativa strain perhaps best known for taking first prize in the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1997, 1998, and 1999. The widespread critical acclaim for this strain really isn’t a surprise when we take a look at its parents: Northern Lights, Skunk, and Haze – all notable strains in their own right. Super Silver Haze has definitely been one of my favorite strains from Trulieve – though I am admittedly a bit biased towards sativa strains.

Quick Facts:

Super Silver Haze  (Sativa)

Batch/Harvest Number: FFOBTRUE9W000002 (that’s an “O” at the beginning and zeroes at the end)

805.0 mg THC/3.5g

0.0 mg CBD/3.5g

23.0% THC – This is relatively high compared to recent flower batches from Trulieve

0.00% CBD

02.70% CBG

0.30 % CBN – One of the first flower strains we’ve seen that has any amount of this cannabinoid

26.0% Total Cannabinoids

It really seems like Trulieve was on their game with these recent batches of flower. I also picked up an eighth of Crescendo (review coming soon), and both flowers were high in THC; they were both cured very well too. This is a welcome observation after Trulieve’s recent batches of flower have taken a small dip in overall quality and THC content. Super Silver Haze features densely packed bright green buds that are absolutely covered in sparkling cannabinoid crystals and dark pink pistils. The bud has excellent moisture content – not too dry or too “uncured” either – perfect balance. There are hints of lighter greens/yellow and also darker pink/amber pistils peppered throughout the buds as well; they really have those classic sativa features. This was a good grow.

Appearance Rating: 4.00/5.00

Super Silver Haze has a bright aroma of earthy pine and sharp citrus, akin to Jack Herer; I suspect that this strain may contain more limonene than Jack Herer, however, as the citrus smell is much more present in this strain. Vaporizing the flower yields a great tasting vapor that features even more citrus and an underlying sweetness that really balances out the flavor nicely. This is a strain that I personally keep coming back to smell, though I don’t enjoy the smell quite as much as the more fruity strains like Colombian Gold.

Smell/Taste Rating: 3.90/5.00

Effects/Medical Use

I definitely found great benefits for my depression and ADHD particularly when medicating with Super Silver Haze. This has been one of the best strains for helping me focus, which could possibly be due to higher amounts of Pinene being present in this strain. Again drawing a comparison to the similar-scented Jack Herer, it is well known for its ability to mitigate the short-term memory loss side effect of THC. My theory is that both Jack Herer and Super Silver Haze contain high amounts of pinene, accounting for both of their earthy pine smells and their common effect of mitigating THC-induced short-term memory loss; again, this is why research into the hundreds of cannabinoids and terpenes present in cannabis is so paramount to how we really unlock its medicinal potential in the coming decades.

Super Silver Haze creates a bright, cerebral high that has a bit of full-body relaxation present as well. I have not experienced any “sativa anxiety” while using this strain; I’d say it’s somewhere in between Colombian Gold and Jack Herer in the mellow quality of the high. I’m able to remain productive and focused on all tasks that need to be completed; communicating information both in person and through text-based interfaces comes quickly and naturally.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression and related anxiety
  • ADD/ADHD or focus-related issues
  • Good for treating lack of motivation
  • Improves concentration and memory recall

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Effects Rating: 4.40/5.00

Overall Rating: 4.10/5.00

Overall, I would best describe Super Silver Haze as a “great” strain.

I can see why it won the Cannabis Cup 3 years in a row. The buds are pretty, it smells and tastes good, and the effects are truly excellent. I hope Trulieve keeps this strain around – at $45/eighth, it’s one of their middle-ground priced strains. Hopefully all the prices will come down this year; regardless, Trulieve should keep this strain around. It’s a good one.

Trulieve Truclear Distillate Review: 9lb Hammer (Indica)

Trulieve’s 9lb Hammer Truclear was one of the first Indica products I tried in the Florida medical cannabis program. Until that point I had primarily relied on sativa strains and a few hybrids here and there; depression is the main condition I use cannabis to treat, so sativas tend to work the best for me in that regard. Having my first experience with actual medical indica strains really opened up a whole new world of medicinal cannabis benefits for me; I am one of the patients who does notice a marked difference in sativa, hybrid, and indica strains. The 9lb Hammer Truclear distillate is a good strain for “heavier” relaxation, and in high doses, an excellent sleep aid.

Quick Facts:

9lb Hammer Distillate (Indica) – (extracted from 9lb Hammer (Indica)) – This may currently be one of the only Trulieve distillates that is named for the actual strain it was extracted from. Hooray!

THC: 80.1%

CBD: 0.4%

THCV: 0.0%

CBN: 0.4%

CBG: 3.0%

Total Cannabinoids: 83.9%

Batch Number: FFOBBULK0O000029

Other Ingredients: Terpenes

As with my other reviews, I rate this product on three main criteria. Those three scores will be averaged for a final “overall score” and basic description of the product quality.

Although I wouldn’t know it until long after my first trying Trulieve’s 9lb Hammer distillate, this stuff gets really close to the taste of vaping actual 9lb Hammer flower. There is definitely that earthy, slightly grape-like taste that is a defining characteristic of the flower; Trulieve did a great job (with food-grade terpenes at that) with accurately emulating the taste of this distillate. As I’ve mentioned in other reviews, there is a notable bitter taste and sensation when consuming any strain of Truclear distillate orally; this can be alleviated by eating your distillate of choice with something slightly sweet or otherwise pleasant in flavor. The distillate may have a slightly sweeter taste when consumed via inhalation in comparison to vaping raw 9lb Hammer flower, but again, it seems to be remarkably close. I like the taste of both the flower and the distillate – very cannabis-esque and enjoyable.

Taste Rating: 3.80/5.00

Vapor Quality

9lb Hammer distillate produces a smooth vapor when used with VFire pods and a Trustik/ALD Amaze VFire battery. The hits can be as small or as big as the user chooses; the taste of the distillate carries over to the vapor fairly efficiently as well, leaving the patient with an enjoyable vaping experience. This strain does not make me cough as much as sativa distillates do, though I suspect the reason for this is the difference in food-grade terpenes between the products. Overall, I think the vapor quality is solid when vaping 9lb Hammer Truclear.

Vapor Quality Rating: 4.00/5.00

9lb Hammer distillate quickly brings on warm body sensations and, perhaps surprisingly, a strong cerebral high as well. I tend to feel the effects nearly instantaneously when vaping, and they come on strong. The main difference with the effects of the distillate vs. the flower is that the body effects are not quite as strong or noticeable in the distillate. My suspicion of the reason for this is that natural flower has so many hundreds of different cannabinoids and terpenes, some of which we may not even be aware of yet. It’s difficult to accurately emulate something created by nature, and though the effects from the distillate are enjoyable, they just aren’t quite the same as the flower. In low doses, 9lb Hammer distillate really doesn’t feel too different from a sativa distillate like Clementine other than having more noticeable effects on the body, but even those effects are only moderately more noticeable in this distillate. Low doses will relieve minor to moderate aches and pains in the body and help my anxiety; high doses will help me ease into sleep much easier and stay in a deeper sleep longer if I’m having issues with insomnia. If you’re a fan of concentrates, I definitely recommend trying this or any other indica product for evening and nighttime use. It’s great for unwinding after a long day and helping the thought train to slow down to a comfortable speed. Patients looking to relieve pain, insomnia, GI issues, anxiety, lack of appetite, and other similar conditions may find relief from using 9lb Hammer distillate. The effects are warm, relaxing, and enjoyable, and perhaps not best suited for the patient planning to be productive.

Effects Rating: 4.10/5.00

Overall Rating: 3.97/5.00

The Trulieve 9lb Hammer Distillate would best be described as a “good” product; I would definite recommend patients trying this or other strains for late afternoon, evening, and nighttime medication. I find this strain particularly good for soothing my anxiety and relieving minor aches and pains related to exercise. Though I prefer the 9lb Hammer flower to the Truclear distillate form, I still see medical value in both, and find the distillate convenient for on-the-go medicating when used via inhalation.

ALD Amaze VFire Vaporizer & VFire Pods Review

The ALD Amaze VFire vaporizer and its VFire pods have been our chosen method of vaping distillates since joining the program last year. The ALD Amaze VFire is basically the exact same vaporizer/battery as both the Cora and TruStik batteries. We prefer the VFire because the pods are a little bit more efficient with distillates than the Cora pods – the Cora pods tend to leave a little bit more left over that has to either be extracted from the pod (syringe?) or left unclaimed and pretty much wasted.

The ALD Amaze VFire battery is extremely easy to use. The pods are locked in with magnetic force; in nearly a year of using this battery and pod, I have never have an issue with the pods falling out in my pocket (this was one of my initial concerns when I learned of the magnetic system). 5 successive clicks of the power/vape button will turn the battery on and another 5 successive clicks after that will turn it off when you’re ready. To vape your oil of choice, you simply hold down the power button and draw from the mouthpiece. The VFire pods consistently have pretty good airflow and only tend to clog after the second fill. Most reddit users we’ve polled agree that 2 fills is the reasonable maximum for the VFire pods.

Loading the empty pods with your oil of choice is very simple and can be done in just a few minutes; we detail the exact steps to this process in an earlier article you can find here. The pods create clouds as big as you choose them to be – you can take up to a 10-second pull before the auto-shutoff feature will temporarily shut off the battery. This can be overridden by tapping the button, as with most batteries that functions this way, but we are not fans of doing this.

Overall, both the battery and pods function just as intended and even a little better than that. Very efficient and easy to use.

Functionality/Efficiency Rating: 4.00/5.00

Battery Life

We are quite simply extremely impressed with how long this battery lasts. I can go for at least four or five days without having to charge the VFire; this is with moderate use of up to four or five sessions per day, as flower is my preferred form of medication.

For heavy users, we would guess this battery lasts for at least a couple of days before having to be charged again. After having this thing for nearly a year, it’s still incredibly reliable.

Battery Life Rating: 4.30/5.00

For a vaporizer that costs less than $25, this thing is more than worth what you pay for it. That being said, it is not the most durable piece of equipment. The metal seems to be of a lower quality, and particularly around the edges where the pods are loaded/clipped in, I could see the metal bending if exposed to force like being stepped on. With a little care, however, the VFire battery holds up very well. The pods are fairly good quality as well; they seem to be some sort of plastic/synthetic material that does not very easily break if dropped. You get what you pay for and a little bit extra with this product – $25 is a steal for a system that will get you started with vaping oils and distillates very quickly and easily. Our vendor of choice (LighterUSA) ships this for free and has a very quick turnaround. Not a bad investment for a product that we can all but guarantee you will be satisfied with.

Durability Rating: 3.50/5.00

Overall Rating: 3.93/5.00

The ALD Amaze VFire Battery and Vfire Pods are very good products. If they could be made with a slightly more durable metal (with a very small increase in cost, maybe to $25?), they would be a great product. We highly recommend the VFire battery and pods for vaping your oils/distillates of choice; we’ve been more than satisfied with this product and its performance over the last year.

Best place to Buy?

The VFire battery and pods have been hard for me to find in my local vape shops, so I use LighterUSA. They have several coupons and discounts for repeat customers, and offer free shipping on most products; the shipping is really quick too – I received my products within two days.

VFire Starter KitThis used to include one free VFire pod, but the model of the vaporizer was recently changed to include a more efficient and universal micro-usb charger, so the pods have to be bought separately now. The vaporizer is still $23, which we think is a steal. You can buy the starter kit here.

VFire Replacement PodsThese are the pods you will need to actually vape your oil of choice. LighterUSA discounts bulk purchases of these pods, as indicated on the product page you can find here.

Trulieve Flower Review: Truberry OG (Hybrid)

Truberry OG is Trulieve’s first “original” strain, grown from breeding Trueberry and a second strain that I can’t remember the name of at the moment. (Bonus points for whoever knows the answer!)

This strain actually caught my attention as I was picking up another set of strains; my local Trulieve will sometimes display different buds in those little “Budbar” plastic containers that allow you to smell them as well. I noticed that the bud they were displaying had a fairly significant amount of purple in it, something that I haven’t seen in a lot of other strains they’ve had available. I decided I would try it if it were available during my next pickup, and luckily, I was able to get the last one in the store the next week. Truberry OG has been a pleasant surprise with its effects, which are comforting and mellow. The taste is pretty phenomenal as well – definitely lives up to the strain name.

Quick Facts:

Truberry OG  (Hybrid)

Batch/Harvest Number: FFOBBULQHG000004 (that’s an “O” at the beginning and zeroes at the end)

640.5 mg THC/3.5g

3.5 mg CBD/3.5g

18.3% THC

0.10% CBD

0.80% CBG

19.2% Total Cannabinoids

The batch of Truberry OG I purchased was cured very well, among some of the best flower I’ve yet seen from Trulieve. The buds I got were particularly colorful: there are splotches of purple throughout the flower, various shades of both light and dark green, and both light and burnt orange pistils all throughout with glossy white trichomes between and within. The appearance of the bud they had on display at my local dispensary was what sealed my future purchase of this strain in the first place, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed with the outcome. Overall, the buds are some of the darkest colored I’ve seen Trulieve grow; though there are little specks of bright green and yellow/white throughout, the predominant colors are the dark greens and purples. This is is some of the best flower I’ve seen – definitely in my top 5 purchases in the program.

Appearance Rating: 4.10/5.00

Truberry OG is one of the first strains I’ve gotten that tastes anywhere near what the name suggests. There is definitely a dominating scent of berry when you open the jar; I would say the smell and taste both are somewhere between blueberry and blackberry. Where I’ve had some vaped bowls of Colombian Gold that tasted like Fruit Loops, Truberry OG’s equivalent would be the Berry edition of Fruit Loops. (Is that a thing?)

There’s also a secondary citrus smell and a subtle pungent odor; the smell is just really nice in general. The buds vape really well and taste very similar to the smell; the berry taste, if anything, is even more noticeable when taking the first inhales and exhales of a new bowl. While Oregon Lemons did not smell or taste much like lemons to me, Truberry OG definitely smells and tastes like some sort of berry.

Smell/Taste Rating: 4.10/5.00

Effects/Medical Use

This strain surprised me in the medicinal effects that I felt from it. Truberry OG seems to be a very balanced hybrid, if not possibly tipping very slightly to indica effects. When vaping this strain, my body definitely feels a warm and relaxing sensation, but my mind also seems to sharpen and focus in to any task at hand. I found this strain made cleaning our house actually somewhat enjoyable, and writing this review is flowing as well as any other content I’ve published to this site. Truberry OG is relaxing but not sedating; it definitely has a closely balanced blend of typical sativa and indica effects. This strain seems good for medicating at any time of the day.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Headaches or other minor body aches
  • Relief of nausea or similar gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Relief of mild anxiety
  • Relief of minor depression
  • Relief of minor lack of motivation or inability to focus

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Effects Rating: 3.90/5.00

Overall Rating: 4.03/5.00

Overall, I would best describe this Truberry OG as “especially enjoyable”.

For their first in-house strain, Trulieve has done a really good job with Truberry OG. I look forward to seeing future strain creations from them; perhaps they will experiment with growing flowers for different cannabinoid ratios other than varying CBD and THC levels. As we’ve been saying, we really expect 2019 to be a significantly memorable year for the growth of the Florida cannabis industry.

Trulieve CO2 Vape Cart Review: Green Crack (Sativa)

After hearing about the Green Crack sativa strain for so long, I finally decided to cave in and try another CO2 Vape Cart from Trulieve. I don’t buy these carts regularly because of the $55 for price tag; when you’re only getting 400mg for that price, it’s hard not to just get an 850mg syringe of Truclear and fill up a VFire pod myself for a total of less than $65. I also had my doubts about the taste of this product after trying the Sunset Sherbert CO2 vape cart; fortunately, this product tasted much better, and the effects have been very nice.

Quick Facts

Strain: Green Crack (Sativa)

THC: 82.2%

CBD: 0.4%

Batch/Harvest Number: FFOBBULPLE000003

Extracted from: Jack Herer (Again, I really don’t understand the need to label the product as another strain. If Green Crack has a lower yield, adjust to that.)

Trulieve’s C02 vape cart products are all made with natural cannabis-derived terpenes, so I expected the taste of them to be much better than their earlier vape carts, which are cut with MCT oil and food-grade terpenes. As I mentioned in the preceding paragraph, the Sunset Sherbert vape cart had me a little bit skeptical of how well Trulieve was going to be able to implement the cannabis-derived terpenes. Sunset Sherbert had a very earthy taste (to be blunt, it tastes like fresh soil), which can be accurate for some strains; however, the implementation in that particular product did not result in the most appealing taste.

I was pleased to find that the Green Crack CO2 cart had a completely different taste. It’s very fresh and “clean” tasting, moderately sweet, with the slightest hint of an herbal/earthy taste. Overall, it’s very pleasing, and I could see it becoming an issue for patients to dose more than usual with this product for that reason. Leafly mentions the three main tastes as “earthy, citrus, and sweet”. I would have to say that sweet was the primary tase of those three, citrus is not really present at all (at least for me), and the earthy taste was very subtle.

Taste Rating: 4.00/5.00

Vapor and Product Quality

The Trulieve CO2 carts are all CCell carts with the small rubber bands of various colors to denote which strain or ratio the cart is. Airflow is exceptionally good with these carts and possibly the best in the program that I’ve yet tried. The carts may look like they aren’t full; my Trulieve always has a package insert in my bag when I buy these carts that states the appearance of any lack of product is due to the efficient absorption of the CCell carts. These carts already seem to burn pretty fast due to how well the air flows, so I’m a little cautious about fully believing this, but online research seems to indicate this is true.

The vapor on this product always makes me cough. Every time. It doesn’t matter if I take a one second drag or if I inhale for five seconds – I am going to go into a coughing fit. This is strange for me because I generally have a good tolerance to cannabis products and rarely cough; perhaps some of the terpenes in Green Crack are causing this. I don’t necessarily find coughing to be a bad thing, though, as it seems I am always more efficiently medicated afterward vs. not coughing at all.

Vapor/Product Quaity Rating: 3.90/5.00

I’m very pleased with the effects I’ve been getting from the Green Crack CO2 cart. This strain induces a very controlled, almost calm, focus. I find that I am able to organize and categorize my thoughts very well after medicating, leading me to believe that this product would be really good for patients looking for alternative treatment for ADD and ADHD. Green Crack does not necessarily give me a significant amount of euphoria, but it does leave me feeling generally calm and at ease, which is not what I would expect based off of the strain name. I honestly don’t know why this strain is called Green Crack, unless the flower brings on different effects; Jack Herer and Sour Diesel both have given me much more racy effects than Green Crack. The only sativa in the program that I’ve found to be an even more mellow sativa would be Colombian Gold.

The focus and productivity this strain brings is outstanding, though. I primarily vape Clementine Truclear during the day to help with my depression, anxiety, and occasional ADD symptoms; after trying this Green Crack vape cart, I may have a close contender for my main daytime medication in the near future. The only superiority that I would say I find in Clementine is its euphoric qualities seem to be more notable and better for treating depression. The effects from the Green Crack CO2 vape cart are definitely top tier.

Effects Rating: 4.40/5.00

Overall Rating: 4.10/5.00

The Green Crack CO2 Vape Cart from Trulieve is a product that I would best describe as “exceptionally good”. The one thing that would make this product even better would be a price reduction down to $40 or $45; I am really hoping that victories in court trials on the unconstitutionality of the current Florida medical cannabis law will drive prices across the state downward in 2019. Other than that, I’d definitely recommend giving this product a try.

Classic Cannabis Flower Strains We’d Like To See in Florida’s 2019 Market

As we’ve discussed before, 2019 will be a significant year in the growth and development of the Florida medical marijuana program. Trulieve and Curaleaf led the innovation of the market in 2018 by introducing their flower pod products; these come in a 3-pack of ceramic pods that are each filled with cannabis flower, totaling to around 3.5 grams or 1/8 ounce.

Trulieve in particular has already offered a relatively large selection of medicinally valuable strains like Sour Diesel and 9lb Hammer during 2018, and with the hearing on the smoking ban coming up on January 8, we expect to see some signs as to how extensively the Florida cannabis program will expand this year.

Either way, we expect to see more dispensaries offer flower products and a wider variety of strains in 2019. We’ve compiled a list of strains we’d like to see in this year, based on factors such as medicinal value and overall novelty. These are flower strains we think would sell well and expect to see at least of few of them making their way into the market this year.

1.) Blue Dream

We’ve already seen a few Blue Dream vaporizer products become available this year, particularly at Liberty Health Sciences. We expect to see at least one MMTC offer Blue Dream flower this year due to its overwhelming popularity in the national cannabis market and the fact that it produces a high yield, up to 3-6 oz per square foot of crop. With well-rounded medical benefits that come together for a calm euphoria, Blue Dream would be an excellent hybrid strain to introduce to the Florida program.

2.) Grandaddy Purple

Another strain that is already available in vape cart form, and even as a distillate in Trulieve’s Truclear line, GDP is a classic powerhouse indica that is known for its ability to counteract insomnia. As full flower sales gear up, we think that the high yield of this strain coupled with the novelty of its vibrant purple colors and the value of its heavy indica effects, we think we’ll see this strain become available in flower in the coming months.

3.) Pineapple Express

Beyond the fact that it’s “hands down the dopest dope I’ve ever smoked” (bonus points if you catch the reference), Pineapple Express is another high-yield strain that would hold great value as sativa-dominant hybrid in the Florida MMJ program. We’ve noticed that most hybrid strains available to date have been indica-dominant, but we feel that sativa-dominant hybrids are extremely desirable and would do well in the program. Besides – what patient would turn down the opportunity to try the strain that is the namesake of a well-known stoner flick?

4.) Cheese

There aren’t currently any strains available that have any smell or taste reminiscent of Cheese, a classic hybrid strain known for obliterating depression, stress, and anxiety. With a medium yield of 1-3 oz per square foot of crop, this strain doesn’t yield quite as much as the other strains before it on this list, but the novelty and the name itself may make up for that setback. With medical benefits that would help hundreds of thousands of Florida cannabis patients suffering from mental ailments, we think Cheese would find its way into the hands of many Florida patients.

5.) Hindu Kush

A classic pure indica strain named for the Hindu Mountain range, this strain brings on relaxing and calming effects without necessarily putting the patient to sleep or making them overwhelmingly drowsy. Hindu Kush returns to the theme of high crop yield, making it desirable for growers, and is said to be a good treatment for stress, pain, insomnia, and depression. We think Hindu Kush would be a good alternative indica strain for patients who want to feel indica effects without being knocked out or heavily couch-locked while medicating.

6.) Maui Wowie

Like Colombian Gold, Maui Wowie is a classic landrace sativa that comes from its namesake in the Hawaiian Islands. Judging from how well reviewed and acclaimed Trulieve’s Colombian Golf flower has been, we think that Maui Wowie would be another good sativa strain to introduce to the Florida medical marijuana market. Maui Wowie is said to have light sativa effects that aren’t particularly racy, making it a good choice for patients who need extra motivation but dislike the anxiety that power sativa can sometimes induce.

7.) OG Kush

Another well-balanced hybrid strain that has gained considerable game on the west coast of the United States, the earthy and sour-lemon smells of OG Kush have become a stable scent of many west coast cannabis strains that came after it. We feel that the name of this strain alone will be familiar to many Florida cannabis patients and may be a good “familiar” choice for new patients who have had prior experience with cannabis, whether from the black market or another legal state. OG Kush could be a versatile choice for medication as it has both indica and sativa effects that are said to crush depression under a heavy euphoria.

8.) AK-47

Another well-known cannabis hybrid strain that produces the classic cannabis side-effects of “the munchies” and “the giggles”, AK47 provides that most people have come to associate with cannabis. AK-47, like most of the strains on this list, produces a high yield. With sativa-dominant effects that are said to be good for creativity and socializing, this strain would be a good choice for patients looking for relief from anxiety and depression. AK-47 is also said to be an effective appetite stimulant, adding versatility to its potential medicinal benefits. We currently don’t know of any AK-47 products in the Florida cannabis market, and we aren’t sure why – this strain is simply a classic. We hope to see that change in 2019.

Closing Thoughts

This list is by no means all-inclusive, but it is compromised of strains we think are some of the most well-known that aren’t already available in flower form in Florida. Trulieve and Curaleaf have really done Florida patients a great service by pushing the boundaries of the program and producing their ceramic pod flower products; they have managed to offer an impressive variety of strains while doing this. We expect to see that variety significantly increase this year, and hope that at least some of the strains on this list find their way into our homes.

Trulieve Flower Review: White Buffalo (Sativa) – from Guest Contributor Josh Kerrigan

Many of you may already be familiar with Reddit and Youtube contributor Josh Kerrigan. We’ve always appreciated his reviews and his time spent assisting Florida medical cannabis patients with their various questions and concerns on the Florida Trees and Florida Medical Trees subreddits.

We are featuring Josh’s review of Trulieve’s White Buffalo flower for many reasons: Josh did a fantastic job formatting this review and putting it together in a visually pleasing way, the flower itself is beautiful, and White Buffalo is one of the most rare strains that Trulieve offered during 2018; we only saw it available once or twice on their website, and unfortunately have not been able to try it out for ourselves yet. This is also the first sativa strain we’ve seen that is significantly purple in color.

Note: Though Josh is wearing a Trulieve shirt in this video, he would like to make it clear that he is not a Trulieve employee!  Apparently many of his YouTube videos have mistakenly made this association.

Let Josh’s video speak for itself! We enjoy his content and think that you will, too. As always – we hope this helps, and appreciate your time taken to read our content!

Florida Medical Cannabis: Ultimate Guide to Vaping Distillate with V-Fire Pods

Why vape distillates?

Simply put, distillates are some of the most cost-effective medications in the program. Since I’m most familiar with them, I will use Trulieve for an example: Their 600mg THC vape carts cost $77, but one gram of Truclear (averaging around 850mg THC) costs $60. Even after buying the pods to fill up with distillate (which are linked below in the “helpful links” section), you spend around $60-$65 for 850mg THC (and no MCT oil) vs. $77 for 600mg THC in a cart that has been cut with MCT oil. As we can see, this difference can quickly add up to significant savings over a period of weeks and months. Most cannabis patients on Reddit prefer filling up VFire pods, which are the same exact pods that Trulieve uses for their Trupod product, with various distillates from the program. The VFire pods work with both the TruStik and ALD Amaze VFire batteries (which are the same battery with different branding); the ALD Amaze starter kit is $23 and comes with a free empty pod vs. spending $35 for a TruStik. The advantage to the TruStik is that Trulieve will replace it for free if its damaged or defective, so the pros and cons of the various devices will need to be weighed out. It can be said for certain that VFire pods are a great product: they’re easy to fill, create quality vapor, and are fairly inexpensive.

How to fill a pod with Distillate

This process can seem somewhat intimidating for a patient that has never done it before. The idea of making a mess and losing product can make the process seem more complicated than it is. I can attest that it is very simple; it takes me less than 5 minutes and my first time attempting a fill was a success. The key to remember is that the edge of the distillate syringe (after you pop off the little plastic/rubber screw stopper) fits down into the pod perfectly and allows for an easy fill.

1.) Remove the mouthpiece, rubber stopper, and metal screen: The first part of the process of filling the pod will be to get the mouthpiece off. VFire pods have 3 parts that comprise their mouthpiece, which are easy to identify due to them being made of 3 different materials. I have also taken a photo that shows all the separate parts and made it the featured image of this post for your convenience. You will have the plastic mouthpiece itself, which is the part you actually hold to your lips when inhaling vapor. The other two parts are the rubber stopper and the metal screen. If you were loading these 3 parts back into an empty pod, the metal screen goes first, then the rubber stopper, and then the plastic mouthpiece is clicked into place.

Most VFire pods I’ve gotten from LighterUSA are shipped with the plastic mouthpieces already taken off, leaving only the rubber stopper and metal screens to remove. Both are pretty easy to get out. If you need to remove the mouthpiece, it just pops out of place, and will take a little bit of force to work it out of the tiny grooves it latches into. For the rubber stopper, I will pinch one of the edges with my fingernails and pull it until I’ve worked it out of the pod; it’s not very hard to do. The metal screen has holes in it that a bobby pin or something similar will easily help you pull out. Once all three of these pieces are removed, you will be left with an empty pod that is ready to fill.

2.) Remove the plastic/rubber screw cap from the Distillate syringe

Most all distillates like Truclear have recently added these little rubber stoppers to the end of their syringes, but these can actually be popped off pretty easily as long as you do not push out any of the distillate before attempting to do so. The distillate acts like glue when it tries, and will bind the cap to it and make it really hard to force off. Do not pry too hard as the nose of the syringe can and will break, creating a mess and possibly an injury if the sharp broken edges cut your finger like they did mine.

If you remove this cap first thing, it should be fairly easy to pull right off. Once this is done, the nose of the syringe will fit down into the pod perfectly.

3.) Heat your distillate

Distillates are thick by nature, making it somewhat difficult to push them through for filling the pods. To make the distillate more of a liquid consistency, it needs to be heated. In my opinion, the easiest way to do this is to use a hairdryer with medium heat on the syringe for about 20-30 seconds (be careful handling the syringe; it will be hot). This makes the distillate very easy to push out. Other methods of heating distillate involve putting the syringe in a plastic bag and letting it soak in warm water, but I prefer keeping things dry and clean.

4.) Put the nose of the syringe into the pod and fill it up

Once all the above steps have been completed, carefully insert the nose of the syringe into the empty VFire pod and push it in. The distillate should flow out freely; fill up the pod until it reaches the level where the metal screen and rubber stopper will be. You will most likely have a small amount of distillate left in the syringe; I typically use this for edibles or for refilling the pod later.

5.) Put the pod back together

Now it’s time to do the reverse of what we did earlier. Put the metal screen in first. The rubber stopper will be next – the side with the larger two outer holes and smaller middle hole needs to be facing upward so the plastic mouthpiece can fit down into it. Finally, push the plastic mouthpiece in until it clicks into place. That’s it – you’re done, and ready to put the VFire pod into a battery to vape!

How many times can I use a VFire Pod?

The general consensus on Reddit is that a single pod is good for 2 total fills, with 3 being the absolute max before the taste and vapor quality both begin to suffer. Patients have noted that the taste begins to take on a “burnt plastic” quality around the end of the second fill. Some patients have claimed to have used a single pod as many as 15 times, but also stated that the taste was terrible after the third fill.

In general, each VFire pod can be expected to retain excellent vapor quality and taste for 2 fills.

Enjoy. This is the only method I use to vaporize my cannabis distillates and has been for many months after I tried it at the suggestion of fellow patients on Reddit. This is the generally accepted best and most affordable method to vaporize cannabis distillates in the Florida medical marijuana program.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me through any of the methods listed on this site’s contact page. As always, I hope this article has been helpful, and thank you for taking the time to read it.
