MÜV Flower Review: Strawberry Cough (Hybrid)

Strawberry Cough is a well-known and sought after cannabis strain that has a bit of mystery behind its exact origin. The general idea behind the lineage is a Haze phenotype was bred with a strawberry strain; some versions of the story say that the other parent was an unknown indica strain that was grown in a strawberry field.

Regardless of the lineage, one thing is clear: MÜV’s phenotype is Strawberry cough is an entirely different strain that VidaCann’s phenotype (review here), which is labeled as a sativa strain.

MÜV has allegedly claimed that their version of Strawberry Cough is the Kyle Kushman phenotype, which has been widely critically acclaimed. I am waiting to verify this with their team, and will report back once I have received an answer.

Quick Facts:

Terpenes

Unfortunately, MÜV doesn’t make their lab reports available, so I have no terpene percentages to provide for this strain. Whenever this information becomes available, I will update this section with the terpenes and their percentages.

Appearance/Cure

Jar is my own; it is a recycled VidaCann flower jar.

MÜV’s T2 flower is $40 per eighth vs. the $50 pricetag of their T1 flower or the $32 for T3. Per their website:

Tier 1 ($50) and Tier 2 ($40) are selected based on potency, size, structure, terpene profiles and aroma. Tier 3 is based on size only.

This is a beautiful Strawberry Cough phenotype that expresses a large amount of purple shades throughout the buds. Fuzzy amber trichomes are numerous and easily visible with the contrasting shades of purple and green in the background. Pistils are slightly fewer in comparison to what I consider the average for all the strains I’ve tried, and are a vibrant burnt orange color.

The buds are medium density and very slightly on the dry side, but are still somewhat sticky when broken apart.

Very nicely grown batch of Strawberry Cough here – and a very nice phenotype, Kyle Kushman or otherwise.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 8.60/10.00

Smell/Taste

This cut of Strawberry Cough smells nearly identical to a Strawberry Creme Saver candy, for those of you who remember it. Strawberry and Cream are the dominant smells, with a faint earthy terpene in the background. This is a moderately loud flower that smells really nice, sweet, and floral, with the cream terpenes being some of the most pronounced I’ve found in Florida cannabis flower.

The taste is much like the smell – musky strawberry overtones with hints of earthy haze. Very good, and currently my favorite of the three “strawberry” flower strains I’ve tried so far. (The other two are Vidacann’s Strawberry Cough and Trulieve’s Strawberry Switchblade.)

Smell/Taste Rating: 8.80/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

As I mentioned before, MÜV lists their cut of Strawberry Cough as a hybrid strain – a contrast from VidaCann’s sativa cut of the strain.

This seems to reflect in the effects as well. MÜV’s Strawberry Cough feels like a more balanced hybrid strain, if slightly sativa-dominant. The typical sativa-esque cerebral invigoration is immediately noticeable, but gentle. This strain is a bit of a creeper, and the mind/euphoric effects seem to reach full intensity about 20-25 min after the first hit.

After the peak of cerebral effects, the indica-like body relaxation begins to set in, but not too heavily. This is a functional strain that I’ve used to wake-and-bake, but it is versatile, as I’ve also used it to wind down after a long day at work. It is notable that this strain does a good job of helping me stay productive and not as anxious from the COVID-19 pandemic that is consuming so much of our lives at this time. Overall, the effects are pretty balanced, and could be used at almost any time of the day – except right before bed, perhaps. This strain has enough of a sativa edge that I would not want to use it before trying to ease my mind off to sleep.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • General enjoyment of life/activities
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Minor to moderate nausea/gastrointestinal issues
  • General Relaxation

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 8.20/10.00

Overall Rating: 8.52/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Strawberry Cough as an “excellent” hybrid strain from MÜV.

At this point, I would have to say that this is my favorite cut of Strawberry Cough currently available in Florida. It truly delivers good results in all the categories I’m looking for. I recommend getting the T2 if you have a chance – it’s the best of both worlds in terms of price and overall quality.

VidaCann Flower Review: Strawberry Cough (Sativa)

Known for its distinct strawberry taste and uplifting effects, Strawberry Cough has been a longtime favorite strain at VidaCann for many patients; until December 2019, it had never been available in flower form – only vape cart and distillate.

That finally changed last month (December 2019), however, when VidaCann released a “limited” batch of Strawberry Cough flower. Since I had such a good experience with the vape cart (mainly by being amazed at how much the cannabis-derived terpenes created such an accurate strawberry taste), I was very eager to try the flower form of this strain. Strawberry Cough flower was released in full buds ($50/eighth) and “popcorn”, Vidacann’s product for the smaller-sized buds off the plant. I opted to get an eighth of the popcorn nugs, which smelled the same as the full sized version in-store – thank you to the budtender who allowed me to smell the strains before my purchase!

Overall, this is a high quality strain, and a strong first sativa flower release for Vidacann (they have only had hybrid and indica flower strains available up to this point.)

Quick Facts:

Price at time of review: $40/eighth for “Popcorn”/small buds; full-size is $50/eighth

Lineage: Haze x Unknown Strawberry Strain

Batch/Harvest Number: 2515791331310374

Terpenes

Unfortunately, VidaCann doesn’t make their lab reports available, so I have no terpene percentages to provide for this strain. Whenever this information becomes available, I will update this section with the terpenes and their percentages.

Appearance/Cure

This eighth of Strawberry Cough popcorn buds features small, light green nugs that are dusted with dark orange/pink pistils and sparkling trichomes. The trim was done pretty well, especially considering these are smaller buds.

The cure could have been done a little better, as I found my flower was a bit on the dry side, and crumbles easily if any pressure is applied to the buds. Though I know the aesthetic qualities are not going to be the same with popcorn/smalls as they are with full-size nugs, I still expect the cure and moisture content to be done well. This was not terrible, but a slightly better cure could have really maximized the potential of this strain.

One more positive about this batch: it weighed over at 4.2 grams – kudos to VidaCann for being overweight at a time where many MMTCs are being accused of selling underweight product.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 7.60/10.00

Smell/Taste

Perhaps one of the most well-known attributes of Strawberry Cough is its distinctive strawberry smell and taste, which according to legend, is due to the fact that the original grower bred a Haze strain with another cannabis variety that was originally grown in a strawberry field – which is what resulted in the strong strawberry terpenes in this strain. Of course, most all of us have no way of verifying if that is true; however, what I can say is that the Strawberry Cough distillate vape cart tasted a lot like strawberries.

The flower form of Strawberry Cough still has a berry/strawberry scent, but I find that earthly and spicy terpenes seem to dominate the terpene profile; the sweet berry terpenes are secondary. The smell reminds me a bit of Trulieve’s Strawberry Switchblade strain, but much more earthy and spicy.

However, the sweeter berry notes seem to come through more in the taste. Though this strain did not have quite the smell and taste I expected after sampling the vape cart (which did have strain specific cannabis-derived terpenes), it was enjoyable nevertheless.

Smell/Taste Rating: 7.80/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

Strawberry Cough has very enjoyable sativa effects that lean towards the more relaxed and uplifting end of the spectrum, rather than being a racy sativa akin to strains like Sour Diesel and Durban Poison.

The effects are almost exactly on par from what I experienced with VidaCann’s Strawberry Cough vape cart – so if you’ve tried that, you have an idea of what to expect from the flower form. I find that the effects start with a shift in visual perception – colors appear brighter, etc. – what I find to be a common experience with sativa strains. This strain seems to inspire my creativity more than most other sativa strains, so any patients who like to play music or create art may find this as a good choice for medicating before taking on some of those activities.

The effects of Strawberry Cough never get really speedy or racy, and feel closer to a sativa-dominant hybrid rather than a pure sativa. As the effects progress, more body relaxation is noticeable, but never to the point of being sedating. I would recommend this strain for use in the morning all the way through late afternoon.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • Lack of motivation/creativity
  • General relaxation/relief

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Every body is different, and every body reacts different to various medications.

Effects Rating: 8.00/10.00

Overall Rating: 7.80/5.00

Overall, I would best describe Strawberry Cough as a “very good” sativa strain from VidaCann.

Though it wasn’t quite what I was expecting after trying it in vape cart form, Strawberry Cough is a solid sativa strain that has earned its place in my rotation – mainly for times where I feel I need an added boost of creativity, or a more low-key/relaxing sativa strain. Sativa enthusiasts will enjoy this strain for its unique terpene profile, even if it’s not quite as strawberry-esque as I expected it to be.

VidaCann continues to grow high-quality flower strains, and I look forward to continuing to trying and reviewing more as we continue throughout the year. Stay tuned!

VidaCann Vape Cartridge Review: Strawberry Cough (Sativa)

Strawberry Cough has been a patient favorite strain at VidaCann for as long as I’ve been in the registry. This flavorful sativa strain has a bit of a legend behind its origin.

According to Hytiva, this strain is a cross between the original Haze and seeds that came from cannabis plants that were grown in strawberry fields somewhere in Connecticut or Vermont. What resulted is a cannabis strain that smells much like the sweet strawberry fields it originally grew in.

Quick Facts:

Strawberry Cough – Sativa

Price at time of review: $44/0.5g cart; $88/1g cart

Lineage: Haze x Unknown Strawberry Strain

~80.0% THC

0.00% CBD

80.0% Total Cannabinoids

THC: 800 mg

CBD: 0 mg

Taste:

I was taken aback by how much this vape cart tastes like natural strawberry and cannabis. After the inhale, I notice a very distinct sweet strawberry flavor, backed up by an earthy cannabis taste. This is one of the best tasting vape carts that I’ve ever tried, and one of the most accurate representations of a strain name in the taste. I would love to see what the flower form of this strain tastes like.

Taste Rating: 4.40/5.00

Vapor and Product Quality

VidaCann vape carts are made from Jupiter CCell carts, and are overall good quality. I’ve had my half gram cart for just over 4 months now, and am finally getting to the last of it. At no time have I had any clogging issues with this cart – it’s produced big, flavorful hits every time.

The one negative I’ve seen on various social media is that these carts may be made from some form of plastic, as there are various images of them cracking or expanding due to heat. I don’t claim to be an expert on what high quality vape carts are made of, but I’d think it would be some sort of glass. Regardless, the makeup of the cart I bought did not result in a negative experience for me at any time.

Vapor/Product Quality Rating: 4.00/5.00

Effects:

I find Strawberry Cough to be a more relaxing sativa in lower doses. It’s not a strain that makes me sleepy, but it also is not completely focused like many sativa strains are. I felt a good deal of physical relaxation along with vigorous cerebral stimulation each time I medicated with this strain. Its effects remind me of Tikun Olam’s Alaska Vape Cart, but perhaps even more relaxing.

When I first medicated with this vape cart, however, I overdid it for my tolerance at the time – and had one of the worst cannabis-induced panic attacks of my life. Novice patients or patients with a low tolerance should exercise extra moderation when first medicating with this vape cart, and gradually build to a level that feels comfortable for them. It took about an hour for me to finally calm down and feel “normal” again, but it was definitely a bumpy ride for a minute there.

When used in therapeutic doses as I’ve learned to do since that experience, this is a good sativa for the morning and afternoon. I personally prefer other sativa strains if I want more of a focused or motivated experience, but Strawberry Cough is an excellent choice for relaxing throughout the day and still being functional enough to stay on task.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Minor to moderate aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • Lack of motivation
  • General relaxation/relief

Effects Rating: 4.00/5.00

Overall Rating: 4.13/5.00

VidaCann’s Strawberry Cough vape cart is best described as a “high quality” product.

At $44/half gram cart, I think this vape cart is one of the best in the program for its price. It costs less than half gram carts from most all of the other MMTCs, and has a flavor and effects profile that even exceeds some of the higher-priced options. If you like flavorful vape carts or the more relaxing sativa strains, this Strawberry Cough vape cart would be a good choice. It is a solid product in all areas.

Hope you all have a wonderful morning, afternoon, evening, or night – whichever applies. Thanks for reading the review!
